we have had several people asking about how to make their sessions more accessible or what to watch out for as barriers to access.
I have added two pages of session accessibility advice on the Access section of the site.
It is not exhaustive and if anyone would like to add more in comments or get me to add it to the pages, please do! 🙂
You can now download a pdf of our shiny handbook and programme grids from the programme page and there is also an accessible word version of the large print handbook. Don't worry, you will get a printed copy as well when you check in, so you don't have to print it, but we thought you'd like to see the lovely things we have in store 🙂
We have organised a creche, the times are:
Thursday 1.30pm to 5.30pm
Friday 1.30pm to 5.30pm
Saturday 9.20am to 1.20pm
Sunday 10am to 2pm
Outwith those times, the pink room can be used, when it is not being used for other sessions.
Please do still let us know if you're planning on bringing children to BiCon, as there are rules about how many children the creche can take. Pre-booked children will always be given priority.
We have some sessions that would like you to bring things, so we'd better warn you now!
roller skates
rope appropriate for shibari (if you don't know what this is, googling for it may be NSFW)
I'm sure there is something else, I'll add it when I remember! for now my day job calls!
The venue have been sweet talking the caterers and the Dining room will be open saturday and sunday from 9am to 2pm! Cooked breakfast is go! So, if you aren't a fan of cooking, only evening meals to worry about.
Since BiCon is self catering quite a few people like to order grocery deliveries to their flats, so here's some tips on how to do that.
The venue address is:
Leeds Trinity University
Brownberrie Lane
Horsforth
Leeds
LS18 5HD
For some supermarkets, e.g. Tescos, it looks like this is the only address you can put in when you order. This makes it very important that you put in a working mobile phone number and add your flat address to the delivery notes field as well. BiCon volunteers cannot take delivery of your groceries (imagine the chaos!).
If you are staying on site you should have your room number by now.The number is the number of the flat and the letter is which room you're in. Most accommodation is in All Saints Court, but some people are staying in Trinity Close. You should have been told which you are in, but if in doubt do ask.
So for deliveries you should tell the supermarket your flat, eg Trinity Close flat 6, as well as a phone number.
You will also need to pick a delivery time when you will be there to receive it. Rooms should be available from 2pm on Thursday, but bear in mind that the venue can't give everyone theirs keys at exactly the same time, so it's best to allow a bit more time to be sure you're in your flat.
Happy shopping, and see you soon!
Although the deadline has passed for getting a room at BiCon you can still book a non-residential weekend or day ticket and stay off site. We know quite a few people are doing this so you won't be the only one! BiCon is not a tourist information bureau, but we can tell you that the nearest hotel is:-
Travelodge Hotel – Leeds Bradford Airport,
Whitehouse Lane
Leeds, LS19 7UE
0871 984 6275
They still have rooms at the time of writing for £51 for the Thursday night and £58 for Friday and Saturday
For details of other options you can contact Leeds Visitor Centre on 0113 242 5242 or go to http://www.visitleeds.co.uk/where-to-stay/.
The BiCon venue address is Leeds Trinity University, Brownberrie Ln, Horsforth, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS18 5HD, so you know where you need to be near.
As people who have attended BiCon before will know, we usually have free safer sex supplies available for our attendees. This year we have recieved a large donation from the Nuns of Perpetual Indulgence!
Many Many Big Thanks to Sister Bobby de Sade, from the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence's Convent of Moravia!!!
Leeds Pride Parade is on Sunday the 3rd of August! Sets off at 2pm, walking groups muster at 1pm. Would anyone like to organise a group for this?
